Let's talk about those last few seconds.

Sunday, July 18

If you happened to make it out to the theaters this weekend and saw Inception you already know what's coming.

Now that we have three children to care for, our movie going days have slowly dwindled. Before kids we would go nearly every weekend, even if what we saw sucked. Now that we go so little I try to be very picky about what we spend our time and money seeing.
Last night we choose to go out and see Inception. And I'm so glad we did. It did NOT disappoint. I've been very pleased by director Christopher Nolan's work ever since Memento and The Prestige. He seems to like to screw around with our perception of reality which I just cannot get enough of. And Inception is like reality on crack. But sooooo good.

The last few seconds, oh yes, those last few seconds. Brian and I debated them on the ride home. I seemed to think one thing, he thought the other. Without saying what I thought was true, what did you think?

I love the dark feel of the movie, and again if you are a Nolan fan you know what I mean. The visuals were so crisp and finely tuned and just beautiful. Awesome cinematography.

But what really matters to me is the plot and in case you don't know what is supposed to happen....Cobb (leo) is asked to do the very difficult task of implanting a thought in a very important person's mind (cillian). (SPOILER ALERT) Doing so will help him get back to his family whom he is unable to be with because his wife has killed herself and made it look like Cobb was responsible. Why? Because she thought her world was a dream and wanted Cobb to join her in leaving it to get back to their real lives and real children.

I think you can figure out what the last few seconds mean. But it was so beautifully done that it wasn't annoying when it happened.
(END SPOILER ALERT)

I've always considered the idea that my entire world is a dream. Brian and I joke about it occasionally. He always gets upset because he thinks it's egotistical of me. Maybe. But considering the enormity of the universe and impossible magnitude of endless space, time and physics, I'm not ruling out anything.

I am convinced that the spinning top was about to fall. it was wobbling - and it did not wobble in dreams.

I also loved this movie so much.

i think the spinning top meant the whole thing was a dream, and that he was just lost in limbo haha but nobody else believes me.

Just saw it. I mean, I just got home! My son and I agree that the top was starting to wobble. Thus, reality. My husband thinks it was all a dream. I agree it was a very good movie!

I am also very picky about what we spend our time and money on, and most of the time I like to skip the all-effects-and-no-plot extravaganzas, but C. Nolan reportedly hates CGI so I knew he wouldn't steer me wrong. And he didn't! My husband and I discussed the ending on the way home, and he was annoyed because he said he wanted more of an ANSWER, in capital letters like that. He wanted to know EXACTLY what happened. I said I was fine with the ending. I'm fine not really speculating, actually - for me, the question was not 'did it fall?' but 'did he get back to his family?' And yes, he did, at least the family that he knew and accepted to be real. This was his goal, getting back to that house, to see those little faces again, so he did that, and I'm satisfied. Maybe the spinner fell. Maybe it's still a dream. But maybe he doesn't even have kids outside. Maybe the wife and the life and the talent are all a dream. So for me, I'm just happy that he got his kids back and gets to live out his happy life, however real it is.

I agree that this was an awesome movie. We have 3 kids and were happy to get to see an "adult" movie that was actually worth the price of admission.

The thing that bothered me was that at the end the kids were wearing the exact thing that they were wearing the whole movie in his imagination! That made me wonder if it was all still a dream. Plus the conversation with his dad when his dad told him that he needed to "come back to reality" had me convinced that the whole movie was about all those other characters trying to pull HIM (Leo) back out of limbo. Oh, well...I guess I was over thinking the whole movie! The whole weightless fight scene in the hallway ROCKED!

That movie was awesome!!! We saw it in IMAX. I have decided that the top fell:~) I like it better that way. But it could go either way. My husband thinks it kept spinning.

I know this is an old post but I to enjoyed the movie. There is a film starring Demi Moore ( I think ) and when she falls asleep she 'wakes up' in another life. She doesn't know which life is real b/c when she falls asleep in the dream life she wakes up in the 'real' life. Or something like that. It's a weird thought!
